Engine Question
Ok this isnt related to a 944, but This is the best place I have to ask.
My mother recently ran her 1999 Toyota Solara out of oil, and im trying to put together a rough price for getting it fixed.
Since she ran it out of oil, im sure she spun a bearing or two, and the pistons probably hit the walls of the cylinders ect... so what am I looking at as far as internal damage? It was run for a good While while knocking... so assume worse case.
I can pick up a rebuild kit for around $700, which includes
complete gasket set, set of pistons and rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, timing belt, balance shaft bearings (if applicable), and a set of expansion plugs. Pistons & Rings: Std., .020, .040. Bearings: Std., 10, 20, 30.
But is that All I would need given the situation? I know the block will probably need to be bored out and then sleeved back to the original bore, how much can I expect to pay for that?
Should I even attempt to do this rebuild? i've never done one before, and most likley wont have much/any guidance...
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
