Bill I looked at the the plates. 14 years of UK weather has took its toll.
There are 2 plates per caliper and are held in by 2 screws each side. I would geuess that either they have never been replaced or at some time someone has replaced them with some lower quality allen heads screws.
The hexagonal hole that you would fit the allen key in has corroded away so no allen key will fit. Im guessing they would have to be drilled out. which is why I filled the pads and went looking for replacement calipers. they often appear on ebay.
If I need to replace the old plates and get re build kits with prices as they are here in the uk its already gettign expensive. plus pads etc etc.
but the main problem is Im alaways under time pressure. as This is my only car I cant afford to work on it for more than a few hours before I either have to go to work or pick kids up.
