I have had my 88 for almost 4 years now.
Great engines. If you do find ones with low miles and had the top end rebuilt all the better.
A car If it will have an issue will show up within a specic milege.
Not too sure if you can or can not check for the wear.
A search in the Tech forums would tell you I thought I remember a thread on it.....
