Today I took the car over to get the exhaust welded up and installed. Since Saturday when I first drove it, I made some adjustments to the shifter which helped a great deal. It shifts really well now and I'm quite happy with it. The side-side bearing falls out easily but that will be an easy fix.
I have to say that having the shifter up high and with a bit shorter throw makes for a really slick setup. The cool thing about the shifter I built is that I can change the throw ratio at the transmission. cable shifting is the way to go
So the exhaust system is getting partially built today. It will be a pair of mufflers, one for each pair of cylinders. Later on I will add a balance pipe, and also exhaust tips. For now though, this will get me on the road so I can test cooling, etc. Also I have to modify the rear trunk slightly to fit exhaust tips.
Jes (wife) picked up an O2 sensor for me yesterday at a Subaru dealership and once I get the car back (probably tomorrow) I will isntall that and I should be able to get out of limp-home mode.
Even in limp-home mode the car is a LOT faster than with the 1.7 It delivers power so smoothly, really a nice engine.
