If you have the choice, replace it with new.
That may sound extravagant to many here but consider the consequences.
Our wonderful dry-sump 911s do not have oil filter protection from any debris in the oil tank (like rust particles). Every piece of crud is delivered to your main bearings, rod bearings, piston squirters, cam lubrication and more. Is this what you want?
The only “safe” early 911 engines are ones with the 906 and later screen filter in place of the engine mounted oil cooler. Those are usually only Factory race cars.
This is only one reason why I would like to see someone produce an engine mounted replacement oil tank like the GT3.
