I'm starting to see some oil weeping from my oil tank. Would you repair it or replace it?

The real issue with used oil tanks is the condensation starts the rust from the inside. Very common in low mileage older cars.

I had mine in my '72 (the rare tank) repaired by brazing. It was less than $120 for the work. YMMV

It has been two years and the patch is still holding.

Mine started leaking, upon dis-assembly it was susted out in multiple area's. I found a good used one for replacement.

I had a leaky one as well. Ordered a used one from EASY. Garden hose with water, gasoline, then 1/2 quart of oil rinse while getting everything out that might be inside.
Repaint outside - working very well..less than $200 if I remember correctly. Curt |

I had my 1973 oil tank cleaned, repaired and tested at a local radiator shop three years ago, no problems. It's not pretty, but I haven't had to look at it since stuffing it back into the rear fender.

If you have the choice, replace it with new.
That may sound extravagant to many here but consider the consequences. Our wonderful dry-sump 911s do not have oil filter protection from any debris in the oil tank (like rust particles). Every piece of crud is delivered to your main bearings, rod bearings, piston squirters, cam lubrication and more. Is this what you want? The only “safe” early 911 engines are ones with the 906 and later screen filter in place of the engine mounted oil cooler. Those are usually only Factory race cars. This is only one reason why I would like to see someone produce an engine mounted replacement oil tank like the GT3. Best, Grady
