Yes, I had considered using a classic car dealer to sell my 71 Corvette Roadster. Most the consigment stores will have you tell them your bottom line and they promise to get you that. Then they add some ridiculous number to it and put it on the show room floor. If it does not sell in a reasonable amount of time, they will ask you to reconsider your asking price (of course they will not reconsider their cut). Unless you find a consignment dealer that works under different principles, they are a waste of time. These dealerships will get you access to the buyers that need financing, but that's about the only value added.

That roadster I sold showed up at the local consignment store only months after the sale. It was marked up 12k from what I sold it for. It has not sold in over 4 months now. I doubt it will for their asking price. After the dealer takes their cut, the seller may be happy to get out even.
