While I can take my daughter in the back seat (5 year old) of the 993, it's far from ideal. I doubt the 996 is any different. There are booster seats that fit, but it's not a very clean looking ordeal and her head is close to the rear window and the "c pillar". Not promising if I think about a collision. Also, if you plan on keeping the car for more than two years, your son will outgrow it. My vote is for the M3. I would actually consider a lesser model 3 series, save money and gas and still have a decent car. If you want to go have fun, you can do that in the 911 when the son is with the other parent ...
