There is a rust belt in the US plus there is oceans with salty air and the whole South is a humid mess. The only good cars are from Southern Cal and AZ and even there an owner that washes it every week or has it sit in the rain enough may push it over the edge.
Sorry for your experience. Never buy a car site unseen - that's the rule for me, since I bought something sight unseen that rusty 10 years ago ...
