There was an article in Excellence about this job a few issues ago. The new threshold rubber strips appear to come with double sided tape on them. The originals must have been put on with a large amount of rubbery glue (PITA to get it all off). Using 3M monkey snot is going to really affix that rubber strip well. Should stay on for a long time.
