Pretty sure that a mag cased 915 will never handle the SBC torque, no matter how it is built. An aluminum cased one is some percentage stronger, but may still not be strong enough for the torque of a 5.7 liter (more or less) V8.

As long as you are performing major surgery, you should conside finding a G50 transaxle, with heavier duty syncros, etc..
