Cruise Control Drive Link Noise
On my way into town this morning I started getting a clacking noise from the drivers side engine compartment. It was intermittent and seemed to be related to clutching. Clutch engaged no noise, disengaged noise. I got to a parking lot and while the noise was happening got under the hood. Definitely the cruise control drive link 944-617-121-00-OEM. Now on my '88 924S the control unit (computer box) is either missing or wasn't an option bought so that drive link has no function as far as I can tell. There is a wire cable attached to the drive link that goes through the firewall and there's also a multi-pin cable on the drive link. In fact to stop the noise I disconnected the multi-pin cable, test drove the car and didn't think this would have any adverse effects. Is that the case? Will operating the car without these circuits complete harm the DME or any other electrical components?
