I've had two interesting problems with the bushing on the side-shifter console. The first was that the plastic bushing would slide up and down--the hole that it mounts in has been oval'ed out. The second problem is that the rear shift rod has been necked down from wear.

Both contribute significantly to slop. I epoxied the bushing into the side-shifter console, and that helped a lot. I will eventually be replacing the rear shift rod completely, but the replacement that I bought does not quite fit on the front shift rod... The hole in the coupler is a little too snug to let it get completely seated.
