This has nothing to do with goat testicles.
My birthday was last Friday, and my tradition is to awaken on a mountain somewhere. This year the "somewhere" was Goat Rocks Wilderness. Reputedly a bazillion year-old collapsed volcano, it is today a semi-circle of peaks and ridges. Knife-edge ridges and gnarly peaks. I stood on top of Old Snowy (7930 feet!). I saw a bee, and a lady bug there. Go figure. It's at least a thousand feet from the nearest sprig of vegetation. Well above the tree line.
Goat Lake is an interesting geological formation. A lake with a waterfall flowing out of it. How many of those have you guys seen? From Old Snowy a number of renowned Cascade Range landmarks can be seen (Four Brothers, Mount Stuart, etc) but the most striking are, of course, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams and of course.....Mount Rainier.
Oh.....and I quit smoking.
