Goat Rocks
This has nothing to do with goat testicles.
My birthday was last Friday, and my tradition is to awaken on a mountain somewhere. This year the "somewhere" was Goat Rocks Wilderness. Reputedly a bazillion year-old collapsed volcano, it is today a semi-circle of peaks and ridges. Knife-edge ridges and gnarly peaks. I stood on top of Old Snowy (7930 feet!). I saw a bee, and a lady bug there. Go figure. It's at least a thousand feet from the nearest sprig of vegetation. Well above the tree line. Goat Lake is an interesting geological formation. A lake with a waterfall flowing out of it. How many of those have you guys seen? From Old Snowy a number of renowned Cascade Range landmarks can be seen (Four Brothers, Mount Stuart, etc) but the most striking are, of course, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams and of course.....Mount Rainier. Oh.....and I quit smoking. ![]() ![]() ![]()

You're right about the goats. Not so much the testicles.

Very cool, Supe.
The pictures explain quite a bit...I have some friends at NORAD who scrambled some F-16s because some satellites picked up a curious white glow from Goat Mountain.

Goat Rocks is great. Wm. O. Douglas's favorite wilderness.
Luckily, I have some memories of it that I hope will survive your pic. |

I've climbed Adams. Its not that hard to climb. It has a path that you can go all the way to the top. From our car we walked in till we got to the 9K level, camped, went to the summit the next day, and back down, spent the night, and then the next day down off the mountain.

I really hope this does not become the new 'self portrait' trend here...
