The later air boxes had metal inserts that would distribute the fuel better at start up. IIRC the CIS gives an extra dose of gas in the air box. The inserts started in 1980, IIRC, you may want to search that.
With the "invention" of the pop off valve, this stainless upgrade is a pretty silly idea. It is probably heavier than the plastic. Maybe it was invented back when the air boxes would explode.
Unless you need a new air box anyway, why bother?
