You didn't mention the year of your car but if you have a mechanical speedometer, I would check the speedo cable if I were you. I had a similar noise coming from the rear - a regular ticking noise and I thought it was my CV joints. Well, after removing/inspecting/cleaning/re-packing/re-installing the CV joints, the noise was still there!!
After checking everything else, I removed the speedo cable and discovered that was my problem.
