AC hose experts-I need your help

I am rebuilding an early 944 and need to replace/rebuild two of the AC hoses:

Short one from condenser to dryer-can be bought for ~$100.00

Long one from dryer to evaporator- can be bought for $300+, rebuilt for $100 or maybe I can buy the proper ends and use just new hose without the metal tubing? I could also maybe use copper tube with some insulation and solder fittings on?

If anyone knows the proper fitting for each location, or has any thoughts on this it would be appreciated. My benchmark is the ~$200 for a new/rebuilt combo and was wondering if it was worth doing some homebuilding to save money.

I have looked at the various sites offering parts but am not sure what fittings to spec. Rubber hoses appear to be #6 on existing units.

Thanks
