Yep,
I reckon that the top seat has more of a period look. However, I am very biased - I have the '73 Recaro seats in my car, and they are black vinyl, with (yes you guessed it), a cord centre.
On mine, it is the vinyl which is looking more tired and worn than the cord section - so I don't reckon that wear will be an issue.
