Which of these seats should I go for...?
(I think) I've finally narrowed down my choice of 'period' looking seats to these two variations on the same design but I can't decide which version would look (& feel) better - the vinyl with cord centre or the plain vinyl with 'perforated' centre.
Opinions? Andy Boyle(UK) '69 911E |

I prefer the bottom photo, the all vinyl...the pattern fits 1969 models well, plus the seats will wear better. That bit given by a guy who had seats with fabric inserts...once.

andy,
thanks for obtaining prices on the seats for me. for aesthetics - the perforated centers. for function - the cordoroy centers. function precedes aesthetics. function as in a daily driver that sits in the sun/cold during the day i don't think there are any other seats available within their price range that offers the period correct look for the older porsches. bob |

That is BF Sitze, right? What sort of price are they quoting (I got about Euro 215 for the seat, and 30 each for the sliders and mounts, or about Euro 275/seat total - freight, don't ask to New Zealand, so they are off the cards for now).
I thought the top picture was vinyl sides and nylon (race seat material?) inserts. The bottom pic looks like tweed. I would have thought the nylon would grip you better and feel less like a bad 70s couch.

Anybody have a link or phone number for that company. What is the company name also? I have been looking for seats just like that.
Thanks, Paul

They are in Germany. I was quoted the prices in my message above PLUS Euro 130 each seat for shipping to New Zealand (air freight! - they didn't quote sea freight). Don't forget duty and taxes too. Cam

Thanks Cam,
I found it just before you posted. Anyone know what the conversion on euro to dollar is? Paul

Andy: I like the fabric cord inserts better for look and feel. They might not last as long as all vinyl, but I'd go with what looks best and is most comfortable. Seats can always be reupholstered, if they get a bit worn. I'm sure you'll have many years of service before that's necessary. The factory did fabric inserts for many years.... My 2 cents. -Doug

Mid rate for Euro to the dollar was 0.8884 when I posted this post (so Euro 100 is $88.84).

Excellent price, especially considering how "period" they look. However it's just occurred to me that they won't tilt, will they? I won't be able to get the kids in the back any more!
Oh well, nice idea. |

I like the top seat. It looks more period to me. (like a 73' Recaro sport seat)

Yep,
I reckon that the top seat has more of a period look. However, I am very biased - I have the '73 Recaro seats in my car, and they are black vinyl, with (yes you guessed it), a cord centre. On mine, it is the vinyl which is looking more tired and worn than the cord section - so I don't reckon that wear will be an issue. Cheers
