So far so good. My 1988 has the plastic cover which some sick engineer attached with three screws that are a freaking PITA to get out. The last one just broke the plastic cover a little, instead of coming out. Anyway I now can see the two metal rods, and YES one of the white plastic clips is in fact broken, the upper/more rearward one. I will get a new clip this week, but now for my next question. I see from the other rod with the good clip that that rod has threads on maybe one inch of its length, and the white clip is centered right on those threads, half inch of threads on either side of the clip. I assume the broken one should be centered the same way once I get the new clip, but the rod is not in the correct position to do that. How do I move the rod so it allows the clip to center properly? I don't want to force it and break it. Thanks !! At least the cause of the heating problem was found, that is a big relief.
