I used Gorilla glue to repair the cracked cardboard (that's what they're made of) and applied a thin strip of fiberglass cloth and polyester resin on the inside over the crack. When I installed them I used slightly larger black-painted thin washers under the screwheads. They are notoriously weak. RS panels are not a bad idea if you don't mind the loss of storage and the stock look.
