Package box repair?

hi,

i know probably all door package boxes in all 911-s are cracked where they are bolted to the door handles ...

but it still bugs me. i asked the porsche center today how much they would charge, and the guy mentioned some 1900 (aussie) dollars
not sure i'm at that stage of my relationship with the 911 yet ...

has anyone tried to fix them?

cheers

georgie

Go with RS door panels and eliminate the door pockets.

Search "door pocket repair". Pelican "autovon" and others have made some successful repairs.

Yep. You will find several different repair techniques. Usually some sort of scab patch, plastic or aluminum. Some have drilled holes down the two side of the crack and kind of laced it back together.

I used Gorilla glue to repair the cracked cardboard (that's what they're made of) and applied a thin strip of fiberglass cloth and polyester resin on the inside over the crack. When I installed them I used slightly larger black-painted thin washers under the screwheads. They are notoriously weak. RS panels are not a bad idea if you don't mind the loss of storage and the stock look.

What about the fiberglass ones that match the OEM cardboard ?

Only 125 (US) for the pair.

come to think of it .. mine do look like plastic ... they are still cracked.

i think i'll try the aluminium reinforcement.

Mine were shot ...Yes ... anything can be rebuilt but, I picked up a pair of the fiberglass pockets. really quite inexpensive.

I re carpeted my interior and have the carpet for the pockets ... But, I wasn't a big fan of carpet on my doors and the pockets once cleaned up looked really nice. You do have to attach the partition / stiffener and drill mounting holes.

I used some hammer finish texture paint first (hard to see in the photo) then painted with flat black.
