Oil cooler return option?
Danglerb. could this have been a return line for an optional external oil cooler? This tube seems to dump out on top of the shaft. I can see no other purpose, why have access to the transmission with a threaded hollow tube that is capped off externally and dumps oil onto the center of the shaft? Perhaps a racing option? Just thinking this over and came up that that thought.
