So whats the dealio with the 2 different Alt. Belts? There appears to be an early model belt () and a late model (post 07/2003) belt.

My bikes build date was 03/2004 (clearly late model, no?). Do I really need to take it to the dealer to have an Alt Belt installed because it requires 3 Special BMW Tools? WTF?

FYI, My Alt is not fixed, but tensionable, and the one off the bike was sku'd as the early model.
