Hey highlander,

If you have the old style belt, your part nubmer ends in 779. I have been told that BMW replaced the old belt with teh new belt and pulley, then ran out and went back to the old style, then got some more and went back to the new style.

It's no biggie though. Buy a belt from maxBMW. Take the cover off. Loosen the three bolts that hold the alternator up. It will drop and you can take the old belt off, then put the new one on. Then, jam a big-ass screwdriver under teh alternator and lift it (pretty hard). tighten one bolt while you hold it, then tighten the other two.

It's a fifteen minute job. As a bonus, then you have a spare and the mad skills to change one on the road.
