I've tried the ammonia method, and the steamer method. I used a large home steamer.
The ammonia method on a warm day works really well. After 15 minutes of warming with a plastic garbage bag over it, the tint peels off without any glue left behind.
The downside is of course you need to be careful not to get ammonia all over your interior. If you do, it will take a few weeks for the smell to go away.
The steamer worked ok, it was a little messy but it of course is just water. There was a decent amount of glue left behind, though. It was hard to get enough heat everywhere. It's more labor than the ammonia method.
If I were doing it again, I think I'd do the ammonia, just be very careful and tape up the bag to the window, spray the ammonia in so it doesn't go anywhere.
