I think the federal law is following California's law, and you know how California hates anything older than three years and non-hybrid.
The thing is, up to a point, buying a second hand car is much more environmentally friendly than buying a new car. First of all, every resource used in building the car is reused by the second or third owner, etc.
Now what is that point? Well, I have no doubt a 1973 Porsche with MFI and no smog control to speak of, will be less environmentally friendly than a 2003 996. Yet again, the '73 is a smaller car, takes up less room, uses smaller tires, weighs less...
I can go on and on and on with examples of how consumers can avoid supporting unions (ooops, did I write that?
