Sounds like a good decision, and in any case it must be cheaper and easier to repair the line than to break up what sounds like a pretty fair car.
BTW, being sensible doesn't always give us security, or make us feel better or more successful. Taking charge and moving forward with confidence does. Save an old friend. You will miss him when he is gone.
