If under warranty just back up your important stuff, take it in and drop it off.
Solid lockup could be software/firmware but I'm leaning towards hardware, video card or a bad stick of RAM.
Genius Bar is really for people looking to get a fix on the spot so if you don't mind waiting a day for diagnoses then just leave it with them.
You can also make an appointment online that fits your schedule so no real waiting when you show up.
