Flag mirrors gone - welcome Vitaloni Sebring Mach 1 Mirror

A stock, well-maintained 911 is a wonderful thing. At the same time I'm a big fan of anything Porsche Motorsport, and I think 964s look great with some hotrod touches, RGruppe style.

I like the aero mirrors but they cost a lot and need to be painted, plus I think they look a little too big on a narrow body coupe (I wish they were 7/8 size). It's a standard upgrade, but that's too easy...

In looking at pictures of old RSRs I noticed this cool looking little mirror called Vitaloni Sebring and wondered if it could replace my flag mirror? Unfortunately there are a bunch of holes in the door hidden by the mirror base (so Ruf scoop mirrors are out also). Sitting on the door, the V. Sebring mirror body looked too small to cover the holes after installation?

Then I saw a piture of a PS Autoart backdated 964, that car had a mirror base similar to a stock car, but it had a small, retro, round mirror on top. Maybe I could mount the Sebring mirror ontop of the flag mirror base? Well, after some fabrication it turned out just as I'd hoped! I actually prefer to have the mirror sit on the flag base, as it raises the mirror up above the door curve and now the mirror sits flat, instead of following the door body.

I thing has a very nice subtle retro look that most people wouldn't notice at all, and some Porschephiles might smile acknowledging the unique rading of Porsche's motorsports parts bin... It's a different look on a 964, but it's a mirror that is part of Porshe's history so I think the styles all ties together nicely?

I mounted the mirrors last night and only did a quick drive down the road to take some pictures this morning, so they aren't fully adjusted. I have a direct line of sight to both mirrors, but visibility is reduced... I can live with it! Getting rid of the flags means the car is a couple inches narrower, so the car looks even smaller!
