a/c, lights, big amp/stereo, fuel pump all provide a draw on the electrical system and can be seen on a decent led/dogital volt meter.
get your vehicle up to operating temp and connect/watch a voltmeter connected to the battery while someone turns on the lights, then a/c and watch how the voltage drops because of the incresed draw of amps from the electrical system.
the alternator is rated in amps, not volts.
