I recommend you up your hunting to where you do not have to buy meat any more. Using a rifle every now and then is a good start.
I pay for pig hunting which helps keep the freezer full even as my other hunting success fluctuates. Wild pig is very lean and just as good for you as chicken. More chicken like dishes can of course be produced with wild turkey, quail and pheasant ... I also like rabbit.
I am happy to report that I had a really good fall season, so it will be March before I will go head out to find my next oinker.
