Is the US market so much different from the european one? Here it still makes a lot of sense restoring a pre-74 911. Only if you can't do it yourself and have to have a shop do it for you, it might be stretching it, but otherwise.....
Mine cost roughly 18k euro to restore (including purchasing the car), market value would be in the low 30K and insurance value is currently 40K. And the prices are still rising......
