Before a rebuild, I will first try cleaning it by leaving it overninght on some solvent and then using compressed air.

PJR,
How did you test for air leaks? Using carb solvent cleaner? Unless you pressurized the system, you'll be surprised how many air leaks your engine has!!! Some are tiny leaks, but the big ones are what causing the problem. Not being able to find an air leak (vac leak) does not mean you don't have one. Test and confirm that the FD is
defective before replacing it.
It would be helpful to post your data for example: check pressures??? What numbers did you get? Done injectors???? What was done and did you get uniform fuel output? How about spray pattern. These are just a few of things why it is difficult to assess your problem/s. Stop guessing and you'll be able to fix your problem.
We are not miracle workers!!!!!
What brand CDI do you have on your car? I have not encountered a CIS problem that could not be diagnosed correctly. CIS troubleshooting is fun and easy. Avoid guesswork to save time and money. Keep us posted.
