Experience with FD rebuilders ?

Can anyone post any recent experience with fuel distributor rebuilders ?
I'll have to go that road and I'm at a loss on which way to turn...

you already have a thread about your FD.

why do you think it needs to be rebuilt. i have suspected mine off an on over the years, but something keeps telling me to keep looking, i always find something else besides the FD. i found a bad fuel injector line that was my main problem, along with the PO setting the cams too far advanced.

I suspect the FD because there's not much else to try...

Done the injectors, checked pressures, no vacuum leaks, distributor ok, fuel pump ok, new filter, return line not clogged...

And the way it happens... transient response, when stepping on the gas... if I accelerate gently it's ok

Before a rebuild, I will first try cleaning it by leaving it overninght on some solvent and then using compressed air.

I will be able to comment by sometime next week, hopefully, as I am expecting a rebuilt unit from German Auto Dismantlers. Not sure who they get to rebuild theirs, but I can find out.

i would make sure the plunger moves up and down freely with no fuel pressure. then measure the fuel quantity of all 6 injectors using 6 individual jars. tony has a nice little setup for doing that, i just used 6 cups and weighed the fuel in a common container.

my feeling is its not the FD.

and your getting full advance out of the dizzy?

air leaks past the injector sleeves, or the rubber on the runner tubes? intake gaskets and intake tight on the heads?

PJR,

How did you test for air leaks? Using carb solvent cleaner? Unless you pressurized the system, you'll be surprised how many air leaks your engine has!!! Some are tiny leaks, but the big ones are what causing the problem. Not being able to find an air leak (vac leak) does not mean you don't have one. Test and confirm that the FD is defective before replacing it.

It would be helpful to post your data for example: check pressures??? What numbers did you get? Done injectors???? What was done and did you get uniform fuel output? How about spray pattern. These are just a few of things why it is difficult to assess your problem/s. Stop guessing and you'll be able to fix your problem. We are not miracle workers!!!!!

What brand CDI do you have on your car? I have not encountered a CIS problem that could not be diagnosed correctly. CIS troubleshooting is fun and easy. Avoid guesswork to save time and money. Keep us posted.

Tony

EASY TO TEST. I fixed mine within a week, Diagnosis in days. Its the hassel of replacement that's the problem.
