I also imagine that all the "need to sell" owners of say, 3 years ago when the markets tanked, are out of their cars.. folks that are selling now are only doing so if the money makes sense. You also don't mention where you are looking for cars. In general it seems most 996's I've seen for sale are more than they would have been last year.
It also seems to me by the 10-12-15 year age (of which 996s are entering), Porsches tend to stop depreciating greatly. Shifts in price are smaller and really nice examples get a bit harder to find.
