Phew... fast forward a few months and I finally came about to splitting the tranny from the 3.2!

First off, the reason why I opted on dropping the engine/tranny this winter is because my clutch pedal slammed to the floor on a regular cruise last summer. I was about to downshift from third to second gear and before depressing the clutch pedal it engaged on it's own really abruptly. At first I thought it might be the clutch cable or the pedal cluster, but inspection of these parts proved otherwise.

This is what I found:






This is a throw out bearing failure. Correct?

Before I start going through Pete Zimmermann's 915 wiki, what do you guys think happened and what needs replacing?

And damn...this thing needs some cleaning up!
