Can't split transmission from engine (3.2 + 915)

Hello and happy new year to all! (hope everybody had really memorable holidays)

Three of my friends and I tackled our first engine drop between xmas and new years!



However, I'm trying to remove my 915 from my 3.2 engine and the thing just won't let go. I have removed all 4 nuts and the starter. The transmission did move a little, but something is holding it from inside. I've searched the forums for a similar situation, but without success... any help would be appreciated!!!

Background info: What initiated the drop was transmission malfunction which ended my pcar season early last year... while cruising around, my clutch pedal dropped to the floor during a downshift. I had inspected the pedal cluster, clutch cable and shifter linkage before having the car towed home in defeat... this happened about a month before my wedding and with all the expenses associated with that there wasn't any funds or time for the carrera. (so yeah, no porsche in the wedding pictures! boooooh)

The clutch fork is holding it you have to remove the cable arm to let it rotate freely then the tranny will come right off.

Phew... fast forward a few months and I finally came about to splitting the tranny from the 3.2!

First off, the reason why I opted on dropping the engine/tranny this winter is because my clutch pedal slammed to the floor on a regular cruise last summer. I was about to downshift from third to second gear and before depressing the clutch pedal it engaged on it's own really abruptly. At first I thought it might be the clutch cable or the pedal cluster, but inspection of these parts proved otherwise.

This is what I found:






This is a throw out bearing failure. Correct?

Before I start going through Pete Zimmermann's 915 wiki, what do you guys think happened and what needs replacing?

And damn...this thing needs some cleaning up!

Best bet, since you have it apart is to replace everything you can if you can afford to: clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, o rings/shaft seals, and transmission output seal, etc.

Once you get it back together, you'll want to leave it alone for many miles, so take the time now and replace as much as you can of all the wearable items.

Also, grease the shaft that the throw out bearing rides on before you assemble everything. Can't recall the exact term for that component right now, but it is the fitting that connects to the trans and which the throw out bearing goes around as it moves back and forth.

Looking at the last picture, it looks like the pressure plate has failed. Look at the fingers on the left side compared to the right side. It's moot because you will be replacing all the parts anyway.

Word to the wise. Vertex has a really cheap clutch kit package, but it sucks. Just put it on my 86 911 with the same 3.2 and 915, it will hold but the low speed stuff (like backing up in a parking lot) creates hot spots like you wouldn't believe. I would contact South Bend Clutch - Dodge clutch kits and Kevlar Pilot Brgs. Dnya Max Clutch Kits for high performance. see if they can't get you something fantastic for a good price.

Once you get the pressure plate off could you post some pictures of the plate and clutch?
