I think a lot of the problem with the new cars is the fact that no one really knows what their long-term reliability is going to be like. They are an unproven platform. While I'm 100% sure that there will be no issues, and that the waterpumper 911s will last for 300K miles+, when there's 50 large on the line there's certainly some hesitation.
The first few years of any new model are always the roughest, too. The cars are likely to the be ones surfacing any chronic mechanical issues. Which makes sense - it just also makes sense to carefully check out these cars before committing the jack to put it in your driveway.
