Repeat after me:
"There is no such thing as a good deal... There is no such thing as a good deal." ...and when looking at sponsors... "Money on the wood makes the deal good."

I disagree - it's all relative. It only seems like a good deal right now, because the same cars are selling (or not selling) new for $85K. Also, only a few months ago, they were selling used for $65-$70. The Kelly Blue Book is about $65,000 on these cars.
Now, if the cars were selling for $30K last month, and are now $40K, then it wouldn't be such a good deal. My point? It's all relative. -Wayne

What exactly are the miles?
I've been following the prices a little. An 82K car went for $36,000 on e-bay. A good deal? I don't know, at the same time, a 996 with less than 40,000 miles on it was advertised in the paper (AutoTrader) for $39,500. I'd rather spend an additional $3,000 miles for 42,000 miles less. These are still late model cars - like all late model cars, when you pile on extreme miles, the value of the car drops quite a bit. |

I think a lot of the problem with the new cars is the fact that no one really knows what their long-term reliability is going to be like. They are an unproven platform. While I'm 100% sure that there will be no issues, and that the waterpumper 911s will last for 300K miles+, when there's 50 large on the line there's certainly some hesitation.
The first few years of any new model are always the roughest, too. The cars are likely to the be ones surfacing any chronic mechanical issues. Which makes sense - it just also makes sense to carefully check out these cars before committing the jack to put it in your driveway.

I agree the long term reliability is an issue. Does it count that the Boxer has a similar configuration and has been around since 97? Starting to see some of those > 100K and havent heard about any problems. I guess it will be 10 years before we really know. I think If i was in the market i would chance it. I think they will be fine reliability wise. Myabe buy one of those aftermarket extended warranties?
You are right on Wayne, the 02s dont seem to be selling that great. Awful lot of new 02s in the dealer adds.
