You might not see it from the ground, but it should be obvious if you are on the roof. You should see things like holes in shingles, missing parts of shingles, or whole missing shingles. If you have anything more than very minor damage, it's pretty much pay your deductible and get a new roof. It's generally not worth it for insurers to dick around with payment while more damage (more losses) occur due to leaks.
