I agree that there should have been a PPI done (on his car as well as mine). But you can't say that the tranny needs a rebuild just because 808 says it "grinds". This could be as simple an issue as trying to shift too quickly from 1st to 2nd or something that a linkage adjustment could fix.
Good luck to 808. Read the forums, use the search function and post the key numbers of the vin, engine and tranny so we know what you have and can help you with fixes, etc.
