Nice looking car, appears to have a wide body conversion. You will find lots of help here. JUst remember there are no stupid questions, and the search function is your friend.

If you post your serial # engine# and tranny# someone here will know just what you've got.
Describe not running problem.
Best of luck with it

Aloha, bud. Welcome to the site and best of luck! Did, by chance, you get anyone to look over the car with some kind of experience with these machines, prior to pulling the trigger and buying this beauty? We've all been there, driven crazy by lust, and just like you sat in it for hours grinning, there's no turning back (its an addiction, we tell ya!)...

Aloha 808, Your car does look nice. Welcome to the forum. As you get into sorting the issues out in your car feel free to ask questions here, lots of very experienced porsche loving folks can help with useful info, also the search button gives you access to huge amounts of older posts chocked full of good details
Are you located on Oahu? there are a few pelicans there, maybe they will touch in with some help, or steer you toward a shop there
I am on Kauai, just a handful of p-cars here and no shop. so it has been pretty DIY here for me. So I have found the forum to be very helpful plus lots of fun to hang out here.

Cheers Richard

definitely post the engine, tranny and vin here. That car is modified (body at least) and you'll want to know exactly what you have, so when it's time to get the oil under your fingernails, you'll be ordering the correct parts.

I bought my '75 as an impulse buy. It wasn't (and still isn't) in as nice a shape as yours. . . one day, maybe. I'm digging the blue!

I welcome him but here is another example of why you should read Pete Z.'s book on buying a 911 - "The Used 911 Story".
Transmission needs rebuild, parts are $$ for proper 915 rebuilds now, a good DIY can run $2K and I doubt he is ready for that yet. A good shop will quickly double that. Engine issues? With no PPI it could be $100 or $15000.00 to make right.

Best of luck, hope it gets sorted and you can enjoy it soon!

I agree that there should have been a PPI done (on his car as well as mine). But you can't say that the tranny needs a rebuild just because 808 says it "grinds". This could be as simple an issue as trying to shift too quickly from 1st to 2nd or something that a linkage adjustment could fix.

Good luck to 808. Read the forums, use the search function and post the key numbers of the vin, engine and tranny so we know what you have and can help you with fixes, etc.

True, it might be as simple as putting Kendall in there! I certainly wish him the best of luck, and he is in the right place now..

Hi thanks for all the replys and welcomes! sorry i have not been able to reply work and holiday weekend with family friends and i hope everyone here had a great weekend also! yes after reading i found out that i should have had a PPI done but ah well live and learn if it ends up looking like it will cost too much i may have to look for another one (im hooked now no turning back lol) or suck it up and fix it i dont know yet. i am on oahu. it ran good when i got it but the transmission grinds when i get in gears but now just a few days ago it stopped running. well i was on the freeway and it started to sputter a little around 3k rpm so i turned around went home it sputtered/hesitated all the way home. i ran it a few days ago and it would run then it would die out but now i try to start it and it will fire up then almost immediately die. it is blowing alot of white smoke out of the exhaust. from previous car experience i think white smoke is oil burning i dont know very much about these porsche cars though if you have any ideas please let me know thank you very much take care oh yes as for vin numbers 9116201545 on my reg certificate i cant find any numbers on the door jams or dash. under the engine i saw 901.101.102.7R on the engine part near the fan not sure what its called: 6461653 with some kind of star at the beginning and end of those numbers. on one of the intake manifold runners on the passenger side theres a triangle then 9111101692R when i looked at the transmission i was not able to see the numbers. thanks for any info or any help!

White smoke is water in the exhaust, should clear out when it gets warm.

For the grinding gears, the first step is to adjust clutch travel, shifter coupling and make sure all bushings are tight. The second step is to replace the transmission oil with Swepco 201. The third step, if steps#1&2 do nothing, is a transmission rebuild.

For the non-running, I would start by a tune-up: cap, rotor, spark plugs. Make sure advance is set properly. Take it from there, it may be many things, but the first step is to narrow down to an ignition or fuel issue.
