White smoke is water in the exhaust, should clear out when it gets warm.
For the grinding gears, the first step is to adjust clutch travel, shifter coupling and make sure all bushings are tight. The second step is to replace the transmission oil with Swepco 201. The third step, if steps#1&2 do nothing, is a transmission rebuild.
For the non-running, I would start by a tune-up: cap, rotor, spark plugs. Make sure advance is set properly. Take it from there, it may be many things, but the first step is to narrow down to an ignition or fuel issue.
