I want to replace my DME with one that I can chip using FRWilk. I will keep my stock on the side.

Should I buy an early DME, a BMW 027 ECU, splice them together and install the powerprom chip?

Or should I look for a 1984-1985 DME with the single EPROM that can be replaced with powerprom?

Would a 1985.5+ DME work for this in my 1984 944? What would it require to work?

Please give me some information or point me in the right direction. I've read through the FRWilk site but couldn't make up my mind. Thank you.
