I think the strap hole elongates a little and the spring loading changes suddenly from a pull to a push when you open the door causing the pop noise. If you replace the pin with a bolt and load it up it will stop for a while. I welded up the holes and redrilled them to size. Easy job to replace with new straps from Pelican, unless it's the holes in the body mount ears that have elongated.
