Read the books, saw the original movies and the remake. I enjoyed all of them to varying degrees. I thought the US remake was the most tame of the bunch, although still pretty graphic in a few spots. Looking forward to seeing the other two. Major props for a very cool remake of Led Zep's "The Immigrant Song".
As others have said I've also seen FAR worse movies as far as violence goes, graphic or implied. I don't think the US version is any more disturbing than any one of a thousand horror/zombie/redneck-cannibal type movie. I definitely wouldn't let my kids watch it though.
