If you are Amazon Prime, you can see all three movies, dubbed in English. The saddest part is the author died before the books, let alone the movies, became famous.

I thought the Swedish versions of these movies were almost worthless. The acting and plot reminded me of made for TV movies. I liked the US movie much better.
The content of the film didn't bother me, nor did the book. I can think of many others that I found far worse. JR |

I didn't think it was overly graphic. I watched it with my wife, who's much more sensitive to such things, and she didn't either. Like everyone else said, the book is much more graphic.
It's a good story, a fun watch, but little beyond that. Not the kind of movie I'd rewatch, or book I'd re-read. Looking forward to watching the swedish version.

I thought the level of sexual violence and sadistry (is that a word?) was higher than I usually care to watch. I understand the movie is true to the book in that regard, so I don't criticize the director. I'm not much interested in reading the book.

Read the books....liked the oem movies.....not expecting the US version to be any good but I'll see it when it gets to Netflix and make my final judgement then.....
Too bad the writer was a big tub of goo and had a V/fib and croaked....his GalPal is alleged to have a fourth book hidden away....or is it his relatives....who knows, they are all fighting over the rights, the money and whatever....total tabloid BS. Film at 11....

I thought the movie wasnt all that intense. I've seen much worse. I really, really enjoyed the film. I have also read all three books and THOSE were much more disturbing.
Rooney Mara is damn hot, btw. |

Read the books, saw the original movies and the remake. I enjoyed all of them to varying degrees. I thought the US remake was the most tame of the bunch, although still pretty graphic in a few spots. Looking forward to seeing the other two. Major props for a very cool remake of Led Zep's "The Immigrant Song".
As others have said I've also seen FAR worse movies as far as violence goes, graphic or implied. I don't think the US version is any more disturbing than any one of a thousand horror/zombie/redneck-cannibal type movie. I definitely wouldn't let my kids watch it though. |

I really liked it & didn't consider it more violent or sexually provocative than most other current & similar movies.

Lisbeth is the movie - and I liked Rooney Mara's performance far more than Noomi Rapace. I think that Fincher went for a far more eerie 'ice' portrayal for Lisbeth, and Mara did a superb job with the creepy/vulnerable aspects of Lisbeth.
The graphic scenes aren't as graphic as you think they are in Fincher's film. They are more graphic than Oplev's take - but, there still is a lot that you just think you see. Books are best - then I would go for Fincher take next. I was worried when I read there was to be an english speaking remake of Oplev's films - which I really enjoyed, but I really believe that Fincher got the layers of the characters put on the screen far better than Oplev. I also think that Fincher's editing is far superior, and the cinematography in Fincher's version - stunning - the TV look of Oplev's is very apparent once you watch Fincher's film.

Well, I apparently rented the unrated version, and like I said, it was MUCH more graphic than any NC-17 movie I've ever seen.

Ms. Mara has quite a pedigree....related to the former owners of the Steelers and the Giants. Her pics on the net....bleech, I hate bangs. I see the flic is already to video.....kiss of death. If any one gives a crap, I will give my opinion in a few days....

I noticed it on the apple tv a few weeks ago. Glad I read this thread. I was not impressed with the preview so now I'll pass on it.

![]() From Wiki: Mara was born and raised in Bedford, New York, a town in Westchester County, north of New York City.[2] The daughter of Timothy Christopher Mara, the vice president of player evaluation for the New York Giants, and Kathleen McNulty (née Rooney), a part-time real estate agent,[3] she has two brothers, Daniel and Conor, and an older sister, Kate.[4] Mara has Irish roots on both sides of her family. Her "Rooney" ancestors originate in Newry, County Down.[5] Through her maternal grandmother, she is also of Italian descent.[6][7] Her paternal grandfather, Wellington Mara, the long-time co-owner of the Giants, was succeeded in that position by her uncle, John Mara. Her maternal grandfather, Timothy James "Tim" Rooney, has run Yonkers Raceway in Yonkers, New York since 1972.[8][9] Mara is the great-granddaughter of both New York Giants founder Tim Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney, Sr.[10] Her great-uncle, Dan Rooney, is chairman of the Steelers, the United States Ambassador to Ireland, and the co-founder of The Ireland Funds charitable organization.

The book is much better. The effed up the plot at the end of the US film after following the book very closely otherwise. I don't quite understand why they made that change. I also did think the US film was too graphic. The book is very graphic, but it is different if you read about it ...

I will not read the book or see the movie, nothing about it interests me at all, I'd rather watch The Big Lebowski and laugh a little... just me, I guess...

What is really amazing is the superb job of translating the books from Swedish to English. Lots get lost in translation but the English version of the books are very well written.

I waited a while to see it, too lazy to go to cinema so watched it on DVD. I had not read the books and saw the American/David Fincher version first. I thought it was very good, actually surprised how much I liked it.
I found it a little disturbing at times but I can't remember when I've had so much sympathy for a character in a film or even in literature. He does a better job of portraying her genius than the Swedish films, IMO. It was very entertaining.
