It's Not Irrelevant...
Perhaps you're tired of reading about it but at least you have a choice to not click on the links.
There's a whole cottage industry springing up around fixing the problem so it's not trivial to those affected and it wouldn't exist if it were so rare. If you're a conspiracy theorist, you can say they're hyping the problem. If you've been affected by it, you know it's real. Porsche has an interest in downplaying the problem and the aftermarket has an interest in magnifying the problem.
No one knows the extent of the problem as discussed ad nauseam. However, we do know the cost of the solution. It's thousands of dollars, not hundreds. We also know it has driven the price of many good Boxsters down so, in a sense, we're all affected in some way.
We know that Porsche tried three times to fix the problem before finally eliminated the cause. They wouldn't have done that for a "rare" occurrence.
